Yes, our child now sleeps in a cage

We have had sleep problems with Ben since birth. We were in a pretty good routine (after a lot of hard work and tears) until we went to McCall for a month in the fall. We had a hard month of sleep there and when we got back, he started immediately climbing out of his crib. We switched him to a toddler bed and have had three months of struggle and sleepless nights. When he would not stay in his room, we had to start locking him in. Then he would only fall asleep on the floor at his door, after yelling out "Mommy, where are you?" a million times. We finally purchased a crib tent and tried to get him excited about camping. Then on Friday he asked if he could sleep in a tent. We explained that we would need to set up his crib again and he was begging for it. So, that's what we did. He was super excited to sleep there, but then realized that he was trapped after we left the room. But then he slept through the night. And tonight, he didn't even cry when we left. I think we're onto something. So, even though I have felt bad about locking him in and now zipping him in, I think it's worth it. : )

Ugh, sleep problems are the worst! So glad that you found something that works. With the new baby coming, you surely can't be up with both of them in the night. Good luck with everything-- Perhaps you can make a competition out of it: "See if you can fall asleep faster than the baby, Ben." :-)

Don't ever feel like it is abuse (as one of my friends called it) it is sanity for you and your child who NEEDS the sleep anyway. Char hasn't tried to get out of the crib yet, but you can bet I will not hesitate to borrow my sister's crib tent if she does. My sis used them for her crazy twins and LOVES them.

Glad the camping idea worked :)

You could say you now have a "happy camper." What a cute little smile. I think it's completely hilarious and what a genius invention! :)

I concur with s_g. He will be a happier, better-adjusted child when he is able to have a good night's rest. Well done!!! PS can't wait until you move here!
