7 months pregnant + Stomach Flu + Active 2-year-old + Husband Working Nights = I Want My Mommy!

On Saturday I came down with the stomach flu. I won't go into details, but I can say that throwing up violently with a huge belly is miserable and painful. I held on just until James got home from work around 10 am and then I went to bed. Poor James had been working all night, but took care of Ben so I could get a nap. At one point, he actually fell asleep while he was talking to Ben. One moment he was saying something to Ben and the next thing he knew, something about antibiotics was coming out of his mouth. We spent the whole day taking turns taking naps and then in the evening we realized it was time for me to go into the hospital and get some fluids. I was having really frequent contractions due to dehydration. So, I called my friend/neighbor/angel Raya (she has rescued me numerous times) to take Ben while we went to the hospital. She didn't hesitate at all, the saint that she is. We spent a few hours at the hospital, where I got tons of IV fluid and some anti-nausea medication, and they monitored the baby and checked to make sure I wasn't dilating. The baby was/is fine and the contractions died down once I was better hydrated. I couldn't help thinking all that day, "I want my mom (or James' mom)!" But, in the absence of moms, I'm so thankful to have friends I can call on for help. Ben had the best time at Raya & Nathan's house (the poor kid had had the most boring day of his life with two zombies for parents) and hasn't gotten sick yet (we're keeping our fingers crossed). Whew, I'm glad the weekend is over!

Katrina,
I'm so sorry! I totally feel for you. Last January, when I was about 7 or 8 months pregnant, I got sick, and it was probably just a really bad cold or flu, but being pregnant, it was horrible! Coughing with a huge belly is miserable, too, and I threw up from all the coughing once or twice. I could hardly get off the couch - it just took it out of me, and then John went out of town! He was gone for 4 days I think, and my kids got to watch movies, and thankfully they played together so well that week and entertained each other. Your story is definitely worse, being dehydrated and having to go to the hospital! I'm glad everything's allright. But it brought back memories! I think pregnancy magnifies any symptoms/illnesses. I hope you feel better soon! Please let me know what I can do to help.

aaaaaahh! that is the worst! I could hear you say the title of your blog! That sounds so miserable. Being the Mom and being sick is the worst--but adding being prego plus husband being very busy. . . so hard. You are a toughie!!!

I'm so glad you finally called me. Ben could have come over sooner and play and you two could have napped together! I'd say that next time we'll follow that plan, but I don't want you to get sick again. It was amazing to hear how much better you were feeling by hearing your voice on the phone vs. before the fluids. Amazing! Glad your better and thanks for going to the park, it was fun!

Katrina--I am so sorry! I wish that I could have been there to help. Next year--although I hope you don't get sick like that ever again.
