A little too much adventure...

We had a little too much adventure during our long weekend in Pocatello.  On Thursday night, after a great day of flying kites, playing outside, and having a generally wonderful time with Grandma and Grandpa, Ben had an accident.  He was trying to get a bath towel back over the shower rod, so he stood up on the edge of the bathtub and was trying to throw it up over the rod.  I was brushing Sam's teeth about two steps away.  I had just stepped away from Sam to help Ben with the towel when he flew off the edge of the tub and broke his fall with his face on the soap dish.  I scooped him up, saw the gash, and knew we were headed to the hospital.  It was awful.  James's parents stayed home with Sam while James and I took Ben to the ER together.  He didn't want to go to the hospital and kept saying things like, "Let's just put a big bandaid on it," and "Does the doctor there know me?"

The car ride to the hospital was pretty traumatic, but while we were in the waiting room, we saw the hospital helicopter take off.  That made Ben feel much better.

 In the waiting room.
Ben was so brave.  He didn't cry when they put shots in his wound, or when they stitched him up.  He has two stitches on the inside and six on the outside.  I made the PA who saw him promise that he would be super careful with Ben's face, and I also made James promise to watch him very closely and make sure he was doing a good job.  I feel like crying whenever I look at him, but I am trying to remind myself that it could have been much, much worse.  And I am trying to be brave for him.  I know I am a drama queen, but this is one of my favorite faces in the world.

He hasn't let the stitches slow him down much.  He has had a variety of bruising all over the bridge of his nose and eyes--today it's sort of yellow/green.

We had a great trip otherwise--maybe sometime I'll post about it.

OUCH!! Poor Ben!! As awful as it looks, somehow it will fade and you'll hardly notice it someday. Jack has two of those on his forehead and you really can't notice them. Plus, he'll look tougher. Doesn't every boy need a scar?? Love you!

Yuck! I'm sorry! That is not what mom's like to see on their kid! But he will still be such a cutie. I'm glad he's still smiling!
